Dette sa Pete Townshend i et intervju fra 1967: “Power pop is what we play—what the Small Faces used to play, and the kind of pop The Beach Boys played in the days of ‘Fun, Fun, Fun’ which I preferred. You know, raw rock & roll with la-la-las."

Når jeg selv skal beskrive musikken blir jeg aldri helt enig med meg selv, er dette for mye pop eller er det for rocka, men ingredienser som kule 12 strengede Rickenbackere og Vox forsterkere, bra koring og Beach Boy harmonier, håndklapping og tamburiner blir aldri feil og MELODIER.

Det skal være riff, fengende melodier med karakter og kraft, harmonier og tekstene skal helst handle om «girls, or summer, or girls in summer, or cars, or getting drunk»…Og låtene bør ikke være mye lengre enn 2 minutter…

Big Stars låt September Gurls ble engang beskrevet som: “Innocent, but deadly” og dette er kanskje kjernen av det hele.
